If you’ve written a nonfiction book or book proposal and you’re looking for a major book deal, you’re going to need a great literary agent.
But not just any literary agent will do. You need to make sure you find an agent who actually specializes in nonfiction.
But that’s not enough either, because many nonfiction agents do not accept submissions from others. Agents close their submissions for several reasons, usually because they have enough clients already, or because they only accept new clients from referrals once they’ve built up a large enough business.
So if you don’t already have someone who can give you a warm introduction to an agent, you’re going to need to find an agent on your own—someone who is currently accepting submissions.
List of Nonfiction Literary Agents Accepting Submissions
With that in mind, our team did some research, and we found 41 agents who specialize in nonfiction and are currently open to submissions.
But before you contact each of these agents, make sure you do your research!
You’ll need to make sure you read their submission guidelines and follow them exactly. Many agents only accept book proposals, while others may accept submissions without a proposal.
You’ll also need to write a great query letter (you can learn how to do that and other great tips on finding a literary agent here). Most agents will simply delete or ignore your email if you don’t write a query letter and follow their submission guidelines.
