There’s never been a better time to be an indie author. From print-on-demand (POD) publishing technologies to the eBook revolution to services like ACX that allow indie authors to find professional narrators to narrate, produce, publish and distribute their audiobooks all over the world, life has gotten a whole lot easier, more fun and more profitable for indie authors.
What started as a small group of renegade authors self-publishing on their own has turned into a worldwide movement that has democratized the publishing industry.
And now, finally, we can all celebrate together with the first annual Indie Author Day coming up on October 8th, 2016.
On Indie Author Day, libraries all over North America are hosting events all day to celebrate indie authors. At 2 pm Eastern Time, everyone will join a digital gathering providing education, information and inspiration for authors from industry experts. This world-class event will help bring our community closer together physically and online.
Despite all the amazing changes happening in the publishing industry, it can still be really tough to be an author. Making a living is difficult. It requires a lot of hard work, dedication, a wide array of skills from writing to publishing to marketing and promotion, and a fair bit of luck to boot. There’s one thing, though, that can help any author achieve more success: and that is successful long-term relationships.
By connecting with libraries and the local community, indie authors can form relationships, make contacts, and build a fan base that can help them achieve the long-term success we all strive for. If you think you can be a successful author doing nothing but sitting in your office and writing, you’re in for a shock! Real success in life, in ANY area of life (including the publishing industry), is all about creating successful relationships.
And what better way is there to get started than in your local community at your local libraries?
“Participating in Indie Author Day helps libraries of all types and sizes leverage their expertise to connect their communities with unique titles and authors that they may not otherwise read. It provides the perfect opportunity for all of us to join together to position libraries as the go-to place to discover the next great read,” said Dee Brennan, Executive Director of Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS).
This event isn’t just a fantastic way for indie authors to connect, share their work and attract fans. It’s also a great way for us to support our local libraries and to help them keep up with the huge changes sweeping across the industry. We may have lost a lot of our book stores as times have changed, but we should always have libraries! And they need our support.
We’re proud at TCK Publishing to be a partner for this first annual Indie Author Day event, and we look forward to a long, happy and prosperous relationship with Indie Author Day, with our indie author community, and with our libraries.
If you’re an indie author, publishing industry veteran or avid reader, please call your local library and ask about their local events and offerings on Indie Author Day! You can see the list of libraries participating in the first Indie Author Day event here.
